WOOD CO. HISTORICAL CTR-FIELD WORK, BG

Hands on Archeology workshops are scheduled throughout the summer at the Wood Co. Historical Center, 13660 County Home Road, Bowling Green. Participants must be age 10 and up. Ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Outdoor field work sessions are weather permitting. Each workshop is limited to ten participants, and reservations must be made in advance by calling 419-352--0967. Paticipants should bring a lunch and bottled water, and dress to be outside for the duration of the afternoon. The fee to participate is $15 and can be paid in advance or at the door. Artifacts from pre-historic Native-Americans, through Wood Co. pioneer days of the 1820s, all the way through the County Home time of 1868-1971 may all be found on-site of the Wood Co. Historical Center.

A panel of mental health professionals highlighting the history of mental illness and current trends in mental health. The panel will consist of May deYoung, Professor of Sociology at Grand Valley State University who will lecture about her book, "Madness": An American History of Mental Illness and Its Treatment; Tom Clemons, Executive Director of Wood County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board; and Jessica Schmitt, Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Wood County. ZONTA LANDINGS BOAT RENTALS, HPD, FINDLAY

ZONTA LANDINGS BOAT RENTALS OPEN MAY 24 THROUGH LABOR DAY Zonta Landing is a public boat livery concession that provides rentals of canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats at Riverside Park. Rentals are taken first come, first served. Canoes and kayaks may also be taken, by the renter, to other bodies of water within Hancock County with an advanced reservation through the HPD office. Equipment rates for canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are $5 per ½ hour. The rental fee for an entire day is $25. Group outings with 6 or more watercrafts are discounted at the rate of $20 per day. All rates include life jackets, paddles, and sales tax. HPD boat livery operation is open from 1-7pm, weekends and holidays, beginning Saturday, May 24 through Monday, September 1 during good weather conditions. Last launch time for 1 hour rentals is 6pm and last launch time for ½ hour rentals is 6:30pm. Contact the HPD office for special arrangements on watercraft rentals. Periods of high water or hazardous weather could close the concession at the discretion of the HPD staff. The event is Saturday, May 31, from 1pm-3pm, at Riverbend Recreation Area, Shelter #5. Would you love to learn how to make and fly kites, then this event is for you! Enjoy watching your kite sore through the blue sky. As the tail of your kite dangles in the breeze, you can enjoy nature as it takes flight around you in the park. Let’s Go Fly a Kite! Riverbend Recreation Area is located at 16618 TR 208, off SR 568 east of Findlay. The Wood County Historical Museum is pleased to host a nationally-recognized photography exhibit by Christopher Payne called Asylum: "Inside the Closed World of State Mental Hospitals". The exhibit and companion book will be in the new gallery space at the Wood County Historical Museum May 31 - November 16, 2014. An opening reception is planned for Friday, May 30, from 6-8pm, with Payne's remarks and book signing. This event is free and open to the public.
