LEAF RELIEF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, FINDLAY

Leaf Relief Volunteers Needed November 15, 2014 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Bagged leaves must be placed on curb by 8 a.m. Volunteers needed to pick up bags of leaves throughout the city of Findlay. This is a one-time event. Residents must place bags by the roadside by 8 a.m. for pick up. Youth teams must be accompanied by, and are the responsibility of their youth leader. Rakes, snow shovels, and brooms are helpful for broken bags. Volunteers are also needed at the drop off sites to open and empty leaf bags. Volunteer groups are welcome and should be indicated in the sign up. Volunteers should wear brightly colored clothing for visibility, have gloves, and wear work shoes, boots, or sport shoes. Volunteers must sign a City of Findlay liability release before participating. All volunteers will be contacted in advance by mail or phone, confirming their assigned area and other information needed.

Apples to Nuts Hike

Who ate all the apples in the orchard? Where have all the nuts gone? Have the forest animals hidden them in preparation for a long winter? Join Program Assistant Chris Allen for a fall hike and learn the answers to these questions on Saturday, November 15 from 1:00 to 3:00 at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. We will gather at the gate house in the parking lot. Litzenberg Memorial Woods is located at 6100 U.S. Route 224, west of Findlay. The Wood County Historical Museum is pleased to host a nationally-recognized photography exhibit by Christopher Payne called Asylum: "Inside the Closed World of State Mental Hospitals". The exhibit and companion book will be in the new gallery space at the Wood County Historical Museum May 31 - November 16, 2014. An opening reception is planned for Friday, May 30, from 6-8pm, with Payne's remarks and book signing. This event is free and open to the public.

The Leonid Meteor Shower, HPD, FINDLAY

For the month of November, when the Leonids meteor shower is viewed best, Susan Nims of the Millstream Astronomy Club will present the How, When, and the Where, as well as the differences between the Leonids and other meteor showers and their relation to their comets. Join her and other members of the MAC on Saturday, November 15 at 6pm. The group will meet in shelter 5 at Riverbend Recreation Area. Riverbend Recreation Area is located at 16618 TR 208, off SR 568, east of Findlay.
