TUG-A TRUCK, FREMONT

n/a

Tug-a-Truck Returning to Fairgrounds Roaring engines, flaming exhaust and squealing tires will be the sights and sounds at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds May 29 and 30 for the second annual "Summer Tug 2015" contest. The pull-off event will take place all weekend inside the fairgrounds. According to fair board member and Tug-a-Truck co-chairman, Clyde Shammo, the concept of the contest simply put, consists of two pickup trucks hooking bumper to bumper on a concrete pad. At the direction of contest officials, the drivers of each respective truck tries to pull the other over a pre-determined distance on the pad. Shammo says the contests have quickly gained popularity throughout the region in the last few years, drawing in many drivers with their trucks to pull, but also drawing many spectators as well. "People of all ages really enjoy watching the trucks pulling," said Shammo. "It's a big thing right now." The fair board originally decided to hold a "Tug" contest at the 2013 Sandusky County Fair. After that show was deemed one of their more successful Grandstand events, the committee decided to hold the summer shows. Shammo says the committee will also feature the event at the 2015 Sandusky County Fair in August. General rules for the contest include all drivers being 18 years of age or older, with a valid driver's license. All trucks must meet contest rules and criteria, as well as pay a twenty dollar entry fee to participate. The contest is divided into a three different weight classes. Friday night's 7:00 P.M. "tug" will feature an "Outlaw Show," and Saturday's 1:00 P.M. contest will pay out added money to the top placings in each class. Organizers hope to make it an entire fun-filled weekend for contestants and spectators alike. Weekend camping available on a first come, first served basis, with reservations made in advance. Live music after the "tug" on Friday evening will also be featured in the campground. Local band, "Eleventh Hour" will perform immediately after the contest in the North Street parking lot. Admission for the contest is $20.00 per person, each day, with children 10 years of age or younger, admitted free. Shammo says, with the popularity of the bumper-to-bumper pulls, board members hope to continue the annual event, and build on it's success. He added, there are still various sponsorship opportunities available. Anyone wanting further information on the Tug-a-Truck contest may contact the Ag Society office by phone at 419-332-5604, visit their web site at www.sanduskycountyfair.com, or their Facebook page.
