Social Issues Theatre is a high school class under the direction of Dr. Jo Beth Gonzalez, where students address social challenges using techniques of “devised theatre” followed by audience talk-back and interaction. This semester, students researched the topic of accessibility challenges for people with disabilities and have crafted a scene that stops at a peak moment of crisis. The audience intervention that follows generates dialogue to suggest possibilities for change. “We are so pleased to collaborate with Dr. Gonzalez’s class in creating a performance that will help build awareness in our community about the challenges those with disabilities face in our society every day,” said Dana Nemeth, Director of the Wood County Historical Center & Museum. “This partnership directly ties in with the Historical Society's mission to be a community organization that makes connections between our past, present and future. Making the Museum accessible will enable visitors at all levels of abilities to enjoy the facility.” This event is sponsored by the Bowling Green High School Drama Club and the Wood County Historical Society with support from Wood Lane and Real Ink and Bruce Corrigan. Additional support was provided by Hancock Wood Electric Community Trust Fund, the Wood County Commissioners, and the state of Ohio’s Capital Fund.
