Kids in The Park: Spring Nature Hike, hpd, FINDLAY

Join Hancock Park District program specialist, Chris Allen for a Kids in the Park Spring Nature Hike at Oakwoods Nature Preserve on Saturday, April 23 at 1 PM. The sights and sounds of nature are all around us. The birds have migrated back home to make their nests and the smell of spring flowers is in the air. This free program is for children of all ages. Registration is not required. Oakwoods Nature Preserve’s Richard S. “Doc” Phillips Discovery Center is located at 1400 Oakwoods Lane, off CR 144, west of Findlay. SAVE THE DATE… 2075! Historical Society Seeks Items for Time Capsule The Wood County Historical Society is seeking items for consideration to include in a 2016 Wood County time capsule, which will be placed inside the museum as accessibility construction draws to a close, leaving a legacy for future generations to enjoy and experience. Selected items will be placed into the Time Capsule, sealed, and placed inside the framework of the Museum at a special ceremony later this year, not to be removed until 2075 when the Museum celebrates its 100-year anniversary. Items should be three-dimensional (not paper), have some connection to Wood County or community history, and should not exceed 14” x 16” x 24.” Not all item suggestions submitted may be selected. Donors must be from or live in Wood County. The deadline to submit items for suggestion is June 1, 2016. For more information about submitting items for consideration to the 2016 time capsule, visit woodcountyhistory.org or call the museum at 419-352-0967. Museum Director Dana Nemeth will host a special Time Capsule-making Information Session at the Wood County Historical Museum on Saturday, April 2. Walk-ins welcome between the hours of 1-4 PM. The Museum will also be open for self-guided tours with a suggested donation. There will be no additional charge for the Time Capsule session. Also that day, the Northwest Ohio Blacksmith Association will have their annual forge demonstration at the Historical Center Blacksmith Shop from 9 AM – 2 PM. This event is free. ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP & MONITORING Continues Throughout April at the Parks The month of April reveals many hidden wonders of the woods. Each week brings a changing view of the flora and fauna of Hancock County. Join Hancock Park District Natural Resource Staff in a variety of Environmental Stewardship & Monitoring opportunities. For more information about the following opportunities, contact Sarah Betts at sbetts@hancockparks.com or at 419-424-1555. All Environmental Stewardship & Monitoring are based on appropriate weather conditions, so please call or e-mail if weather is questionable to confirm that monitoring will be occurring on the designated days. Bird Monitoring – Saturday, April 23 at 8 AM. Bright Farm, meeting at Riverbend Recreation Area, Shelter 3 located at 16618 TR 208, off SR 568, east of Findlay and then drive to the Bright Farm together. Come join us for our monthly surveys of bird life in the Hancock Park District. All skill levels welcome. Hiking distances and times will vary; be prepared for weather, ground conditions, and at least 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours on the trails. Children under 16 years of age should be accompanied by an adult. Remember to bring your binoculars! Wildflower Monitoring – Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20, & 27 at 1 PM. Meet at Litzenberg Memorial Woods, Gatehouse located at 6100 US RT 224, west of Findlay. Wildflower Monitoring – Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, & 28 at 1 PM. Meet at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Richard S. “Doc” Phillips Discovery Center located at 1400 Oakwoods Lane, off CR 144, west of Findlay. Binoculars, camera, and wildflower ID book welcome. Through its innovative movement style, trideaDANCE explores the quirks and intricacies of everyday life, and strives to make dance accessible and enjoyable to a variety of audiences.
